The government of Alberta has approved 25 exploration licenses for CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers (Map 1). These licences were awarded by the government through an RFPP (Request for Full Project Proposal) process whereby proponents had to submit proposals which demonstrated the business model, design & location and ability to execute. The 25 successful projects have now been granted the right to evaluate the awarded pore space within five years.
By overlying the project outlines with large point source emissions, the future of Alberta carbon sequestration hub system is more visible (Map 2).
