On March 29th 2019, Erfan Sarvaramini presented a talk entitled- 3D Simulation of the Stimulated Reservoir Volume Evolution during Hydraulic Fracturing at the SPE Workshop: Challenges to Develop Unconventional Resources in Colombia.

In this talk, Erfan discussed the primary geomechanical challenges of unconventional developments in Colombia which can potentially impact the overall frac performance. In this presentation, he focused on the first two primary challenges. i.e., (1) complex stress regime in generally tectonic active areas, and (2) heterogeneity and anisotropy in geomechanical properties associated with laminations and beddings. Using a case study in Duvernay Alberta as an analogy to Colombian shale reservoirs, he discussed how the in-situ stress and geomechanical heterogeneities can impact the frac height growth and frac containments.
