Resource/Reserves Evaluations - Unconventional
Unconventional Knowledge Base
GLJ's extensive experience in the evaluation of unconventional resources has evolved with the changing needs of the industry and our clients. Our broad client list includes some of the most active unconventional resource developers in the industry. Accordingly, GLJ continues to be involved with all types of unconventional play types in their earliest stages. This includes oil sands mining and in situ bitumen extraction, coal bed methane and the application of horizontal drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technology to exploit oil and gas resources in tight sands and shales.
Oil Sands Mining
GLJ is a leader in independent evaluations of oil sands mining operations. GLJ has performed audits and evaluations of all four operating Canadian oil sands mining projects over many years on behalf of various owners. We have also prepared resource evaluations for mining projects in the initial approval and development stages.
Jim Willmon, Vice-President, with over 32 years of petroleum industry experience and over 23 years of oil sands mining audit/evaluation experience manages GLJ’s oil sands mining evaluations.

Tight/Shale Gas and Oil; Coalbed Methane
As exploitation of unconventional resources in coals, tight formations and shales has evolved, so too has GLJ's involvement and expertise. Evaluation of unconventional resources and the associated risks and uncertainties involves challenges and complexities which differ from most conventional reserves analyses. GLJ is well versed in these issues and can help you communicate the underlying value of these unconventional opportunities.
